Lin Lovekin planted a modest willow bed on her small holding in the depths of Cornwall 20 years ago. Today she grows a whole lot more willow than she originally started with, varieties such as Dicky Meadows & Brittany Blue. Lins craft of basketry is a methodical, time consuming process that takes years to learn. This is evident in each of her pieces, the skill and traditional weaving techniques that she uses show off her knowledge of the craft that has changed little in hundreds of years. Basket makers performed a role in communities that may seem lost in today’s world of mass production, however Lin Lovekin is testament to a good honest skill dying hard.
Using varieties of willow grown on her own land and bought in from the Somerset levels, Lin has produced a Basket that is strong, functional and very good looking. A traditional Polish Basket with its asymmetrical form and eucalyptus branch handle, this piece is striking. We adore the earthy tones and organic bulb like shape. An everyday shopper for your lighter items, a magazine holder in your living room or the perfect home for your kindling.
