Made as a small series by Elisabeth Barry, these Textural Vases are thrown in direct conversation to her smooth polished porcelain pieces. Created with a semi-porcelain clay mixed with rougher components, the texture on these Vases are rich in earthiness. The purity of the white porcelain is broken by the rugged surface, which in turn is interrupted by the elegant forms.
Over the last year we have asked Elisabeth to break from her normal mode of practice to produce ceramics that challenge her way of making. This form of clay can be tough on the hands but it allowed Elisabeth to throw larger forms, in comparison to her smaller work.
We adore these pieces with their confident necks shooting up from the rounded base. They are designed to display a select bunch of clippings or hedgerow finds. Although the Vases are just a striking as sculptural pieces placed accordingly to be admired.
Tactile and earthy, pure and beautiful.
