Charcoal Bowl
Charcoal Bowl
Leighan Thomas is an Oxfordshire based potter, her ceramics use function as a framework for a creative output. Tableware pieces such as jugs, cups and bowls act as the final intention but what excites us is the journey that Leighan takes to get there. Her work follows a lead from natural elements such as blackened rock, charcoal wood and slate grey. The restriction in palette is off set by her desire to make marks, leave an imprint and allow texture to have its say.
This Charcoal Bowl balances on the edge of black and grey, luster and matte, functional and ornamental. The deep surface is contrasted with the rough highlights of the raw clay left around the rim and bottom of the bowl. Perfect as pinch pots, these bowls will happily hold your salt, pepper or even gather a small bounty from the allotment such as tomatoes and green beans.
Naturally wonderful.
